What's in a Photography Mini Session and why would I want one?

3 times a year I host Mini sessions. I can hear you scratching your head and wondering what that means. I'm here to fill you in on all the details of WHAT and WHY a mini session is a fantastic alternative to a full photography session.

Firstly, as a photographer, I standardly run with 3 packages available starting at $350 and range up to $575. They have a range of inclusions, exclusions and optional extras. These sessions are fully private, at a location of your choosing and generally do not have a cap on the number of participants.

A mini on the other hand, is a shorter photo session with less images and takes place in one, pre-determined location. Session are usually only 15-30 minutes in length and are setup for you to walk in, get your images snapped then walk out again. They are suitable for family styled imagery and usually are suitable for children able to sit or be held by other family members.

This gallery is an example of the Winter Mini's I am running this year (in just a few weeks!) These images were all shot in a short amount of time and as you can see we weren't too fussed on having everyone looking directly at the camera and smiling each time. The studio was set up and ready for the clients to walk in, snap snap snap and walk out again. It's a great opportunity to get some candid and natural imagery.

5 Reasons to Choose a Mini Session

  • They are cheaper!

For anyone on a tight budget or who simply just wants a few nice images of their family, I highly recommend a mini session!

  • If you have kids the short timeframe is very suitable

We all know (those of us with kids especially) that the attention span of children can be hit and miss, ESPECIALLY is a situation such as having family photos. It's new, it's weird, it might be a little scary and your child may only smile for a short time. Enter the Mini Session! it's short and sweet and usually kids enjoy it!

  • You can choose to purchase more images after your session

Bu there's no pressure or expectations to purchase more! During your Mini Session, we may shoot anywhere from 10-50 images and afterwards you may find it hard to cull the images from your final selection. It's not a problem and it's really understandable. There are options afterwards during the selection process to purchase additional image individually or purchase the entire gallery! It's 100% up to you!

  • They are at a pre-determined and pre-setup location

This can make it easy for you when booking and scheduling. You know the exact time of your session, the exact location and can plan accordingly. Having a setup pre-designed also allows you to see (through marketing images) how you could expect your images to turn out, not leaving too much to chance.

  • Try out a new Photographer with low commitment

Finding or choosing a photographer can be a scary process, especially if said photographers are charging the big $$$$$$. You could pay the money and not like what you get! This is a great way to try out a new photographer and see if you like their style, personality and approach to your session.

This gallery is an example of the Mother's Day Mini's I held in studio this year! It's easy to see how so many beautiful images are able to be taken in such a short timeframe.

And finally here is a preview of this years upcoming Christmas Mini's that will be taking place in studio in November!

These are my boys, and I used them as a test run for the backdrop. It's new and I was really interested to see how it would look as I have adopted a new "less is more" policy for my imagery. Safe to say I am THRILLED with the results and cannot wait to get some more of these photos closer to Christmas! These photos (plus about 50 more) were snapped in just 10 minutes so again you can see how easy it is to get such a variety in a short time-frame.

So that's it. If you still have questions about booking a mini session or need help deciding which session is right for you, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

I am always open to and interested in helping anyone with any photography-related questions!

Have a great Thursday!
